Certificate in International Trade

International trade is the exchange of goods and services across international boundaries or territories. The course prepares students to work directly in the field of importing and exporting, or in one of the many related fields that draw on this expertise. The programme also encompasses Marketing, Law and Statistical analysis, all of which are necessary components of the business qualification and serve to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the world of International Trade.  

Programme Objectives

This qualification affords learners the opportunity to understand the market forces that drive International Trade. A successful participant will be able to use the knowledge acquired to pursue a career in International Trade. With an internationally recognised qualification this can lead to further qualifications at Degree level. Assessment is both continuous and end of year.

Award

A FETAC Level 5 Certificate in International Trade (BBSIT) is awarded to learners who successfully complete all modules.  A record of achievement is awarded to students who successfully complete one module.   • National Vocational Certificate Level 1, Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent qualifications
  • Curriculum Vitae or Interview
  • Mature Applicants (23 Yrs) with relevant life and work experience

Assessment:

Continuous assessment applies all year round and roughly represents 60% of the final grade. Assignments are to be completed during the year. There is an end of year assesment that represents the remaining 40% of the final grade.

Career Opportunities:

The completion of this course provides an excellent opportunity for the successful participant to secure a recognised Irish qualification that can assist in a variety of roles in various sectors of employment.  With students increasingly travelling the world a qualification in International Trade can make individuals more aware of the available economic opportunities.

Progression:

Successful participants of this course are awarded a FETAC Level 5 Certificate and are eligible to progress to further education opportunities at Business Management Institute or with other third level institutions.  Full details are provided in the document titled ‘BMI Access Transfer & Progression’ which is available on enrolment or on request.

Protection for Learners:

Business Management Institute adheres to the Qualifications (Education & Training) Act of 1999 which addresses Protection for Learners. The Act seeks to ensure that learners have every opportunity to complete a programme leading to an award.  To fulfil the requirements of this act Business Management Institute has in place a written agreement with two other providers who will allow Learners to transfer over their programmes should Business Management Institute cease to provide the programme in question. Full details of this arrangement is supplied on enrolment or on request.

Course Duration and Pricing

• The course commences on the 2nd of October 2007, finishes on May the 16th, 2008
• It is held 2 days a week, Monday and Tuesday 9.30am to 5.30pm
• All modules are completed in the academic year
• Course fees include registration fees, exam fees and course material
• The tuition fee is €2,300
• A revision course & mock examination are included in the tuition fee
