Accounting
Technicians Ireland
Accounting Technicians Ireland (formerly IATI) was established in 1983 and has become the leading accounting technician body in Ireland. They currently have over 5,800 students and 4,600 members. The IATI
provides a recognised business qualification for ambitious
people working or planning to work in middle management
or in the accounting area.
The IATI qualification consists of
two years.
Successful candidates are qualified
to work as accounting technicians within the accountancy
profession or alternatively can pursue one of the main
professional accountancy qualifications with generous
exemptions. Candidates who complete the IATI course at BMI are assisted by BMI through our work placement programme in securing the relevant experience required to achieve the MIATI designation on completion of exams.
First Year
The course design has a practical
focus with candidates gaining experience in accounting,
taxation and law. The IATI qualification is suitable
for a wide range of candidates from participants with
little knowledge of accountancy to those already working
in accountancy departments but seeking a formal qualification. For a detailed syllabus click here.
Syllabus
Financial Accounting I
Basic accounting concepts, journal
preparation, accounting transaction, recording and account
preparation are the focus of this module.
Taxation I (ROI)
Participants will acquire a general
overview of the taxation system in Ireland and acquire
practical skills relating to the calculation of relevant
tax computations.
Business Management
This module is designed to provide accounting technician students with a theoretical foundation and practical grounding in business management.
Law and Ethics
The key outcome of this module is to provide learners with Knowledge and understanding of the key concepts and fundamental principles of law and ethics and the practical application of them in the context of business and commercial activities. Emphasis will be on the recognition of legal and ethical issues which may require the expertise of specialists.

The next course will commence on the 4th of October 2011. Enrol online to reserve a course place. Course places are limited and are only reserved on full payment of tuition fees.
First Year course subjects commence in October for May examinations
Evening tuition is available Tuesday and Thursday nights 6.15pm to 9.30pm
Cost is €365 per subject
A revision course is included in the tuition fee

On completion of the First Year, participants continue to the Second Year of the Institute of

Syllabus
Financial Accounting II
The objective of this module is to
assess the ability of participants to deal at a more
advanced level with topics covered in the Accounting
I paper. The module aims to increase the knowledge of
currently accepted accounting practices in the preparation
and presentation of financial statements and the participants'
ability to analyse and interpret the performance of
business and draft reports thereon.
Taxation II (ROI)
The objective of this paper is to assess the students in their understanding of the basic law and practice of Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Value Added Tax, Corporation Tax and to compentantly deal with practical situations involving those taxes, including the completion of related official tax forms.
Integrated Accounting Systems
The key objective of this module is to provide learners with practical experience of effectively using standard software packages used in the business world, particularly those commonly used by accountants. Learners will be enabled to reach a level of proficiency in the use of these packages that will render them effective in the workplace.
Management Accounting
The key learning outcome of this module is to provide learners with knowledge and technical competency in the area of management accounting to support business functions, activities and decision-making.

Further
Training:
On successful completion of the Admission level a participant
becomes a Member of the IATI and is allowed to put the
letters MATI after their name. They must have a minimum
of two years relevant work experience and successfully
complete a practical computer-based accounting assignment. BMI have a work placement programme in place and will assist course participants in seeking relevant work experience.
